We all know that money can’t buy happiness … but many times we act as if we’d be happier with a bit more money. We are conditioned to want to be rich (when we know the rich aren’t happy either); we are trained to want the latest gadget or style that television tells us to want; we want to earn more money because then we’ll have the good life.
But none of that will bring us happiness. No matter how much we earn, no matter how much we have in the bank, no matter how nice our clothing or cars or toys, none of it will make us happier. And the sad thing is that it could take us decades of pursuing wealth and luxury items before we realize this.
So what will bring us happiness? Luckily, it’s three things that don’t cost a thing. These three things have been proven by research — surveys of hundreds of thousands of people about what they have, what their lives are like, and how happy they are.
Here they are, the Three Secrets to Happiness:
Good relationships. We have a human need to be close, to be intimate, with other human beings. Having good, supportive friendships, a strong marriage or close and loving relationships with our family members will make us much more likely to be happy. Action steps: Take time, today, to spend time with your loved ones, to tell them what they mean to you, to listen to them, and develop your relationship with them.
Positive thinking. I’m obviously a big proponent of positive thinking as the best way to achieve your goals, but it turns out that it can lead to happiness too. Optimism and self-esteem are some of the best indicators of people who lead happy lives. Happy people feel empowered, in control of their lives, and have a positive outlook on life. Action steps: Make positive thinking a habit. In fact, this should be one of the first habits you develop. Get into the habit of squashing all negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones. Instead of “I can’t” think “I can”. It may sound corny, but it has worked for me, every time.
Flow. This is a popular concept on the Internet these days — the state we enter when we are completely focused on the work or task before us. We are so immersed in our task that we lose track of time. Having work and leisure that gets you in this state of flow will almost undoubtedly lead to happiness. People find greatest enjoyment not when they’re passively mindless, but when they’re absorbed in a mindful challenge. Action steps: Find work that you’re passionate about. Seriously — this is an extremely important step. Find hobbies that you’re passionate about. Turn off the TV — this is the opposite of flow — and get outside and do something that truly engages you.
You’ve been given the Three Secrets to Happiness. Don’t waste them!

8 Tips to Take Control of Your Weight
Anyone who is overweight will testify that losing weight is not as easy as it seems. The people that are lean, or have gone from fat to skinny will say it’s just a matter of motivation and elbow grease. Although it is not as simple as that. Our environments have waged war on us. Their weapons are sedentary lives and Trans fats of mass destruction. All is not lost though, here are some quick simple tips to get ahead!
1. Substitute Water.
Our bodies are about 65-70% water. It follows that water would be not only essential, but the best possibly choice of liquids to ingest. In fact, our bodies will sometimes simulate a hunger response, when in reality the body is craving hydration. When hungry, drink a glass or two of water to check if it suppresses your hunger.
2. Chew Your Food.
Chewing our food very slowly and deliberately has several benefits that are often overlooked. It gives us the ability to relax, and enjoy our meal. Slow chewing is the first, and highly important, step in a complex system of digestion. Besides, if we eat slowly, we might feel full before finishing the whole meal, and can leave the rest for the next meal.
3. Exercise daily.
How silly of me to include something as obvious as exercise. I did a 30 day trial with waking up, and walking for 30 minutes first thing in the morning. My journal records that I was feeling amazing during the period of time that I was following this habit.
4. Publicize your intentions.
Start a blog, join a forum, and have other people keep you accountable to help. Tell other people your plan, it would help you get the motivation to go with it!
5. Create a food schedule.
Plan your day so that you’re eating at approximately the same time each day. This scheduling will incorporate itself into your circadian rhythm, and aid in digestion.
6. Do not over eat.
Know your limit and stop eating when you are full. I have often been a victim of wanting to finish a meal so that it doesn’t go to waste. This has left me with many a stomach ache. Next time, doggy bag it for later, and don’t hurt yourself!
7.Choose your snacks wisely.
Put down the Lays® and cheese puffs. Pick up the apple and baby carrots. Make the right decision, I know you can do it.
8.Lifestyle.
Remember, it’s not about special diets, or special exercise programs. The real secret is in turning your health into a lifestyle, and focusing on this healthy lifestyle with every choice you make.

A QUESTION IN PHYSICS
A QUESTION IN PHYSICS
The following concerns a question in a physics degree exam at the University of Copenhagen:
"Describe how to determine the height of a skyscraper with a barometer."
One student replied:
"You tie a long piece of string to the neck of the barometer, then lower the barometer from the roof of the skyscraper to the ground. The
length of the string plus the length of the barometer will equal the height of the building."
This highly original answer so incensed the examiner that the student was failed immediately. He appealed on the grounds that his answer was indisputably correct, and the university appointed an independent arbiter
to decide the case. The arbiter judged that the answer was indeed correct, but did not
display any noticeable knowledge of physics.
To resolve the problem it was decided to call the student in and allow him six minutes in which to provide a verbal answer which showed, at least,
a minimal familiarity with the basic principles of physics.
For five minutes, the student sat in silence, forehead creased in thought.
The arbiter reminded him that time was running out, to which the student replied that he had several extremely relevant answers, but couldn't make up his mind which to use.
On being advised to hurry up the student replied as follows:
Firstly, you could take the barometer up to the roof of the skyscraper, drop it over the edge, and measure the time it takes to reach the ground. The height of the building can then be worked out from the formula H = 0.5g x t squared. But bad luck on the barometer.
Or if the sun is shining you could measure the height of the barometer, then set it on end and measure the length of its shadow. Then you
measure the length of the skyscraper's shadow, and thereafter it is a simple matter of proportional arithmetic to work out the height of the skyscraper.
But if you wanted to be highly scientific about it, you could tie a short piece of string to the barometer and swing it like a pendulum, first at
ground level and then on the roof of the skyscraper. The height is worked out by the difference in the gravitational restoring force T = 2 pi sqrroot (l / g).
Or if the skyscraper has an outside emergency staircase, it would be easier to walk up it and mark off the height of the skyscraper in barometer
lengths, then add them up.
If you merely wanted to be boring and orthodox about it, of course, you could use the barometer to measure the air pressure on the roof of the skyscraper and on the ground, and convert the difference in millibars into feet to give the height of the building.
But since we are constantly being exhorted to exercise independence of mind and apply scientific methods, undoubtedly the best way would be to knock on the janitor's door and say to him 'If you would like a nice new barometer, I will give you this one if you tell me the height of this skyscraper'."
The student was Niels Bohr, the only Dane to win the Nobel prize for Physics.

Good Engineering Lasts Forever
Good Engineering Lasts Forever
The U.S. standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches. That is an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used? Because that's the way they built them in England, and the U.S. railroads were built by English expatriates.
Why did the English build them that way? Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and that's the gauge they used. Why did "they" use that gauge? Because the people who built the
tramways used the same jigs and tools that they used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing.
So why did the wagons have that particular odd spacing? Well, if they tried to use any other spacing, the wagon wheels would break on some of the old, long distance roads in England, because that was the spacing of the wheel ruts. So who built those old rutted roads? The first long distance roads in Europe (and England) were built by Imperial Rome for their legions. The roads have been used ever since. And the ruts in the roads? The ruts in the roads, which everyone had to match for fear of destroying their wagon wheels, were first formed by Roman war chariots. Since the chariots were made for (or by) Imperial Rome, they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing.
The U.S. standard railroad gauge of 4 feet-8.5 inches derives from the original specification for an Imperial Roman war chariot. Specifications and bureaucracies live forever. So the next time you are handed a specification and wonder what horse's ass came up with it, you may be exactly right. Because the Imperial Roman war chariots were made just wide enough to accommodate the back end of two war horses.
Thus we have the answer to the original question. Now for the twist to the story. When we see a space shuttle sitting on it's launching pad, there are two booster rockets attached to the side of the main fuel tank. These are solid rocket boosters, or SRB's. The SRB's, are made by Thiokol, at their factory in Utah. The engineers who designed the SRB's might have preferred to make them a bit fatter, but the SRB's had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site. The railroad line from the factory had to run through a tunnel in the mountains. The tunnel is slightly wider than the railroad track, and the railroad track is about as wide as two horses' rumps.
So, a major design feature of what is arguably the worlds most advanced transportation system was determined over two thousand years ago by the Width of a horse's ass! Don't you just love engineering?

A LETTER TO A BANK
A LETTER TO A BANK
Below is an actual letter sent from Australia to a U.S. bank. The bank found it amusing enough to publish in the New York Times in 1999. [Edited letter for length. ]
Dear Sir,
I am writing to thank you for bouncing the cheque with which I endeavoured to pay my plumber last month. By my calculations some three nanoseconds must have elapsed between his presenting the cheque, and the arrival in my account of the funds needed to honour it. I refer, of course, to the automatic monthly deposit of my entire salary, an arrangement which, I admit, has only been in place seven or eight years. You are to be commended for seizing that brief window of opportunity, and also for debiting my account with $50 by way of penalty for the inconvenience I caused to your bank.
My thankfulness springs from the manner in which this incident has caused me to re-think my errant financial ways. No more will our relationship be blighted by these unpleasant incidents, for I am restructuring my affairs in 2000, taking as my model the procedures, attitudes and conduct of your very bank.
To this end, please be advised about the following changes. First, I have noticed that whereas I personally attend to your telephone calls and letters, when I try to contact you I am confronted by the impersonal, ever-changing, pre-recorded, faceless entity which your bank has become. From now on I, like you, choose only to deal with a flesh and blood person.
My mortgage and loan repayments will, therefore and hereafter, no longer be automatic, but will arrive at your bank, by cheque, addressed personally and confidentially to an employee of your branch, whom you must nominate. You will be aware that it is an offence under the Postal Act for any other person to open such an envelope.
Please find attached an Application Contact Status for your chosen employee to complete. It runs to eight pages in order that I know as much about him or her as your bank knows about me. In due course I will issue your employee with a PIN number which he/she must quote in all dealings with me. I regret that it cannot be shorter than 28 digits but, again, I have modelled it on the number of button presses required to access my account balance on your phone bank service.
Let me level the playing field even further by introducing you to my new telephone system, which is very much like yours. My Authorised Contact at your bank may call me at any time and will be answered by an automated voice. By pressing buttons on the phone, s/he will be guided the following set of menus:
1. To make an appointment to see me.
2. To query a missing repayment.
3. To make a general complaint or inquiry.
4. To transfer the call to my living room.
5. To transfer the call to my bedroom in case I am sleeping.
6. To transfer the call to my toilet in case I am attending to nature.
7. To transfer the call to my mobile phone in case I am not at home.
8. To leave a message on my computer. To leave a message, a password to access my computer is required. Password will be communicated at a later date.
9. To return to the main menu and listen carefully to options 1 through 8. The contact will then be put on hold, awaiting my automated answering service, which should not often exceed twenty minutes.
Now comes the matter of cost. As your bank has often pointed out, the ongoing drive for greater efficiency comes at a cost -- a cost which you have always been quick to pass on to me. Let me repay your kindness by passing some costs back.
First, there is the matter of advertising material you send me. This I will read for a fee of $20 per page. Inquiries from your nominated contact will be billed at $5 per minute of my time spent in response. Any debits to my account, as, for example, in the matter of the penalty for the dishonoured cheque, will be passed back to you. My new phone service runs at 75 cents a minute, so you would be well advised to keep your inquiries brief and to the point.
Regrettably, but again following your example, I must also levy an establishment fee to cover the setting up of this new arrangement. May I wish you a happy, if ever-so-slightly less prosperous, New Year. Your humble client.
"Why do banks charge you a 'non-sufficient funds
fee' on money they already know you don't have?"

Prosperity
Prosperity
What is it for you?
A rich man asked a Zen master to write something down that could encourage the prosperity of his family for years to come. It would be something that the family could cherish for generations. On a large piece of paper, the master wrote, "Father dies, son dies, grandson dies."
The rich man became angry when he saw the master's work. "I asked you to write something down that could bring happiness and prosperity to my family. Why do you give me something depressing like this?"
"If your son should die before you," the master answered, "this would bring unbearable grief to your family. If your grandson should die before your son, this also would bring great sorrow. If your family, generation after generation, disappears in the order I have described, it will be the natural course of life. This is true happiness and prosperity."

The old Zen master's health was fading. Knowing his death was near, he announced to all the monks that he soon would be passing down his robe and rice bowl to appoint the next master of the monastery.
His choice, he said, would be based on a contest. Anyone seeking the appointment was required to demonstrate his spiritual wisdom by submitting a poem.
The head monk, the most obvious successor, presented a poem that was well composed and insightful. All the monks anticipated his selection as their new leader. However, the next morning another poem appeared on the wall in the hallway, apparently written during the dark hours of the night.
It stunned everyone with it's elegance and profundity but no one knew who the author was. Determined to find this person, the old master began questioning all the monks. To his surprise, the investigation led to the rather quiet kitchen worker who pounded rice for the meals.
Upon hearing the news, the jealous head monk and his comrades plotted to kill their rival. In secret, the old master passed down his robe and bowl to the rice-pounder, who quickly fled from the monastery, later to become a widely renowned Zen teacher.

There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbours came to visit.
"Such bad luck," they said sympathetically.
"May be," the farmer replied.
The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses.
"How wonderful," the neighbours exclaimed.
"May be," replied the old man.
The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbours again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune.
"May be," answered the farmer.
The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by.
The neighbours congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.
"May be," said the farmer.

Shake it off and step up
This old farmer had a mule that fell into the
farmer's well.
The water wasn't very deep, so the mule was able to stand on the bottom. The farmer heard the mule praying, or whatever mules do when they fall into a well and went to investigate. After assessing the situation the farmer sympathized with the mule but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth saving. The farmer called his neighbours together and told them what had happened and enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.
Initially the mule was hysterical, but as the farmer and his neighbours continued to shovel dirt on his back a thought struck him. It dawned on the mule that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on
his back he would shake it off and step up.
This he did, blow after blow of dirt hitting his back. Shake it off and step up...Shake it off and step up...Shake it off and step up. The mule repeated this statement over and over to encourage himself no matter how painful the blows or distressing the situation seemed, the old mule fought panic and just kept on shaking it off and stepping up.
It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped over the wall of the well. What had seemed would bury him actually saved him because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.
That's life. If we face our problems and respond to them positively and refuse to give in to panic, bitterness or self-pity...the adversities that come along to bury us often have within them the very real potential to benefit us.
Remember,
Amateurs built the ark.
Professionals built the Titanic.

The Three Bricklayers
The Three Bricklayers
A story that well summarizes the power of Vision, is the story of three bricklayers. The story goes, that three bricklayers were working side by side.
When asked, "What are you doing?", the first bricklayer replied:
"I'm laying bricks."
The second bricklayer was asked. He answered,
"Feeding my family."
The third bricklayer when asked the question,
"What are you doing?", responded,
"I'm building a cathedral."
The question is, are you trying to reach your goals in your business with bricklayers or cathedral builders?
A vision is really like a magnet. It draws people toward it. The vision takes them from the past and commits them to the future.
Vision is our internal compass --
working on your business
...not just in your business.
"Vision without action is merely a dream;
Action without vision just passes the time.
Vision with action can change the world."
~ Joel Barker

How High Can You Jump?
How High Can You Jump?
Flea trainers have observed a predictable and strange habit of fleas while training them. Fleas are trained by putting them in a cardboard box with a top on it. The fleas will jump up and hit the top of the cardboard box over and over and over again. As you watch them jump and hit the lid, something very interesting becomes obvious. After a period of jumping and hitting their head, jumping and hitting their head, ther comes a time when they modify what they their strategy! The fleas continue to jump, but they are no longer jumping high enough to hit the top. Apparently expectation forces them to limit the height of their jump.
When you take off the lid, the fleas continue to jump, but they will not jump out of the box. They won't jump out because they can't jump out. Why? The reason is simple. They have conditioned themselves to jump just so high. Once they have conditioned themselves to jump just so high, that's all they can do!
Many times, people do the same thing. They restrict themselves and never reach their potential. Just like the fleas, they fail to jump higher, thinking they are doing all they can do.

Top Foods for Men
Top Foods for Men
Most men know which foods they should avoid, and you know that it’s not a good idea, especially if you’re trying to watch your weight. To really take your nutrition to the next level and maximize your diet, it helps to know which foods you should be eating.
The following top foods for men are all great additions to your diet and should be eaten on a regular basis. Doing so will not only help you to progress maximally with your workouts, but it will also help to promote much better health in the long run.
1 - Cabbage : A vegetable that often gets lost in the mix, cabbage is chock-full of nutrients and incredibly low in calories. This is the perfect food to eat when you're trying to shed body fat because it offers good nutrition and gives you a sense of fullness, which is a major factor in top foods for men. Potentially one of the biggest benefits that cabbage offers is an antioxidant that helps to work toward preventing cancer.
A one-cup serving of cabbage has 22 calories, 5 grams of carbs, 0 grams of fat, and 1.5 grams of protein.
One unique way to incorporate cabbage into your diet is to prepare a twist on the traditional cabbage roll: stir-fry some lean, sliced chicken breast with chopped vegetables, wrap it up in a slice of cabbage, and then bake these rolls in a light tomato sauce until tender. These could easily be frozen and then taken to work for lunch.
2- Cottage cheese : One of the best things to eat right before you go to bed, cottage cheese is a great source of casein protein, thus supplying your body with slow-digesting protein during the overnight fast. This is precisely why cottage cheese is among the top foods for men -- especially if you’re lifting weights.
A terrific way to consume this before bed is to mix it with one tablespoon of peanut butter (melted if you prefer) and throwing in a few chopped nuts of choice, which will add a small amount of fat to the snack, further slowing the release of protein into the blood.
3- Pomegranate berries : A very healthy fruit, pomegranate berries have been shown to help prevent cancer, particularly prostate cancer. Since this is a concern for many men, getting your daily dose can offer you extra reassurances that you are doing everything you can to protect yourself.
This fruit is also an excellent source of vitamin C, which helps to maintain proper collagen development and to fight the common cold. To make it really simple to reap the benefits of this healthy fruit, toss in half a cup of berries into your post-workout protein shake and blend until smooth.
4- Dates : If you’re looking for something to include in your post-workout meal, dates are the perfect choice. This fruit is very high on the glycemic index, which is what you want at this point since it will cause the protein you consume at this time to be taken up by the muscle cells at a faster rate.
Most guys, when choosing a post-workout fruit, will opt for a banana, which has a glycemic index of 56, while a date has a rating of 103. Remember that the rest of the day you want to be eating on the lower side of the glycemic index, so only eat dates after your workout.
One easy way to incorporate dates into your post-workout meal is to spread a date jelly over a few rice cakes, which will give you fast-acting carbohydrates that will really get the protein from your post-workout protein shake into your muscles.
4- Salmon : Salmon is a rich source of essential fatty acids, making it one of the best varieties of fish to eat on a regular basis and one of the best foods for men. If you enjoy canned salmon, you’ll appreciate the excellent source of calcium provided by the bones, which, in turn, will promote strong bones in yourself and proper muscle contractions.
When ordering salmon from a restaurant, however, watch out for any sauces it may be slathered in. Salmon is a popular fish to drown in cream sauces, which can provide you with a lot more fat and calories than you need.
When preparing salmon at home, try grilling it on the barbecue -- or oven grill -- after it has been sitting in a marinade composed of 1 tablespoon soy sauce, chopped fresh ginger (amount depends on taste preference), a half tablespoon olive oil, and a half teaspoon onion soup mix. This will enhance its flavor and won't add a lot of additional fat or calories.
Add all these tips together, and you could easily eat between 12 and 15 portions every day without making any major changes to your lifestyle. All it takes to give yourself a huge nutritional boost is a little planning. You may inadvertently find some unexpected fringe benefits -- lower shopping bills, more energy and a slimmer waistline. It’s hard to overemphasize just how valuable getting your five (or more) each day can be. Try making sure you eat at least five fruits and vegetables every day for a week, and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Surround yourself with Positive Energy
Surround yourself with Positive Energy
Do you see the glass half full or half empty? Or as one person said, it's probably half empty and dirty.
Positive Energy is unseen but can make a difference in your life and health.
Keeping negative thoughts away from you isn't that easy. It takes work and determanination to keep them away, but can be done. If you are surrounding yourself with people with negative energy who always sees the bad in everything that energy will flow over to you, making negativety part of you.
Everyone has known someone that is always negative always wanting to bring more people in their circle so that they can complain to more people. These people do not have the positive attitude You can not keep away negative feelings and thoughts if you are sourrounded by these types of people.
Positive energy is sourrounding you if you think happy thoughts, and positive thoughts. With positive energy you can accomplish more and have a better life. You have the power from within of that "can do" attitude. Nothing can really stop you from doing what you want in life with this attitude. You know what you want and what you need to do to achieve it. You see set backs not as failure but as a learning experience of how not to achieve your objective. Roadblocks are training blocks to you. Where roadblocks may stop most people, those with positive energy and attitudes will just slow down to go over them but then continue on their journey.
Here are some points worthy to always keep in mind:
The main thing to remember is that life is a circle. If you do good to others, others will do good to you. If you bring sadness in someone's life, it will come back to you. This is the circle of life.
Make a list of things that you want to achieve. Do you want to be sucessful in business, or to take a dream trip? You can if you visualize it often of you doing these things.
Picture yourself on the exotic beach and then make a plan of how you can achieve it. Then put that plan in action. But to get the plan to come together you can't get discourged when you hit the roadblocks on the way there.
Keeping the positive thoughts and the goodness inside of you will help you.
Write your goals on paper and carry it with you all the time, or place it in a place that you can see it often to keep you on track of your goals. Make a plan and check off the steps you have completed so that you see visually on how well you are doing.
Now back to the negative people in your life. As hard as it may be to see them less for your emotional sanity, you do have to get them out of your life or lessen your involvement in their life. They are in a rut, where they don't like their marriage, their jobs, and they feel stuck. No one is really stuck unless they want to be. They can change jobs and feel better about themselves. Just like you and me. I had negative people in my life, I felt sad allot not becuase my life was really that bad, but because I felt guilty if I was happy and my friends were sad and miserable. Once I got away from their negative energy, my life became happier, and the positive energy again flowed from within me.
If i have a negative thought, I make it a positve thought. Losing a job is usually hard, but I looked at it as a new beginning. You know that there are other good jobs out there, just because the place you owrked at closed down, and you no longer have a check coming in, it's not the end of the world.
My friend who was employed for 29 years at the same place, she lost her job, but within weeks found her dream job. Was she sad about losing her job? no, not really, she looked at it as an oppertunity to do what she wanted. It got her out of a rut of doing the same job day after day, that she is so much happier now.
She is living her dream. Was she negaitive about losing the job? No, she was relieved in a way. Knowing that nothing was going to stop her from doing what she wanted to do. She may be making less money, but she is happier, and learning the meaning of life, and looks forward to going to work everyday.
So even the things that seem bad at the time, can be turned into a positve thing.
Keeping positive feelings, and people in your life is the only way to keep positive energy sourrounding you. With positive energy sourrounding you, anything is possible.
Studies have even showed that people who are facing devastating illnesses that are positive often times recover faster than the people that give up after recieving the news.

5 Common Fitness Myths
Ever overheard some juicy stuff at the gym? I remember hearing a woman tell her friend the juicy story of her extra-marital affair as I peddled away on an exercise bike--oh boy. Chances are you've also heard some misleading health advice from fellow gym goers. I know I have! Here's a roundup of the five most frequent myths, and what you really need to know... I asked my fitness instructor and personal trainer to tell me the top five health myths she hears in the gym and the real facts behind them:
Myth #1: Light weights on arms or legs help burn extra calories and build muscle while walking/running."It is an absolute myth! There is absolutely no need to add additional weight to your own. By adding hand-held or Velcro weights only slows you down, which leads to an incomplete aerobic benefit."
Myth #2: If you want to lose weight, stay away from strength training because it will make you bulk up. "Most fitness experts believe that cardiovascular exercise and strength training are both valuable for maintaining a healthy weight. Strength training helps maintain muscle mass and decrease body fat percentage. By incorporating both into your regimen, results are noticed faster and with the proper amount of strength training, your body will not result in a bulky appearance."
Myth #3: Crunches blast belly fat. "Almost every client believes that performing 100 crunches daily will result in the coveted washboard abs. Planks, yoga, Pilates and crunches and a variety of cardiovascular exercises will help in lowering belly fat. Daily nutrition is also extremely dependent on the appearance of your midsection. Abdominal exercises can strengthen and tone the muscles. But those muscles are underneath the "subcutaneous" layer of fat that gives the lovely appearance of flab. Only losing weight can get rid of excess fat, and where you lose the weight is also dependent on your genetics."
Myth #4: No pain, no gain. "Many people still believe that you have to work at a very high intensity in order to get see physical improvements. You don't need to run a marathon! The idea is making sure that the exercise is at least moderate-intensity--that is, equivalent to walking at a pace of three to four miles an hour. High-intensity exercise does have one advantage: it saves time. It takes less time to burn the same number of calories at higher intensity. You can jog for 20 minutes or walk for 40 or 45. You shouldn't feel like working out harder or faster will lead to maximum results, as this may lead to strenuous complications later in life."
Myth #5: You have to sweat to know you're really working hard. "Sweating is not necessarily an indicator of exertion--the process of perspiring is your body's way of cooling itself. It is possible to burn a significant number of calories without breaking a sweat: taking a walk, doing light weight training, or working out in a swimming pool won't lead to excessive sweating."

...What love means?...
When you are together with that special someone,
you pretend to ignore that person.
But when that special someone is not around,
you might look around to find them.
At that moment, you are in love.
Although there is someone else who always makes you laugh,
your eyes and attention might go only to that special someone.
Then, you are in love.
Although that special someone was supposed to have called you long back, to let you know of their safe arrival, your phone is quiet. You are desperately waiting for the call!
At that moment, you are in love.
If you are much more excited for one short e-mail from that special someone than other many long e-mails, you are in love.
When you find yourself as one who cannot erase all the emails or SMS messages in your phone because of one message from that special someone, you are in love.
When you get a couple of free movie tickets, you would not hesitate to think of that special someone. Then, you are in love.
You keep telling yourself, "that special someone is just a friend", but you realize that you can not avoid that person's special attraction. At that moment, you are in love.
While you are reading this , if someone appears in your mind, then u are in love with that person...

Sugar : 8 Shocking Facts
Sugar : 8 Shocking Facts
In case you haven't heard, sugar is quite the bad boy for a healthy diet. Part of
the reason for this is because the more sugar you consume, the more you crave it.
And while sugar is an ingredient that is definitely worth indulging in once in awhile, over indulging can cause many health problems, both in the short term and
the long term.
Why, however, has it become such a problem? In a recent teleconference that we held, experts enlightened us on some very interesting factoids about the sweet white stuff and why it has become such a topic of concern in recent years:
Today's Consumption: Today, an average American consumes 2-3 pounds of sugar each week. While at the end of the 19th century (1887-1890), the average American consumed only 5 lbs. per year..
A Continual Rise: Over the last 20 years, sugar consumption in the U.S. has increased 26 pounds to 135 lbs. of sugar per person per year.
Hidden Culprits: Sugar consumption includes highly refined sugars that are incorporated into many of the foods we eat (bread, peanut butter, condiments, sauces, etc.). Some of these are better known as sucrose (table sugar), dextrose (corn
sugar), and high-fructose corn syrup..
4 Classes: 4 classes of simple sugars (Sucrose, fructose, honey, and malts) are deemed "harmful" to optimal health when long-term consumption is over 15% of carbohydrate calories ingested. Hint...complex carbohydrates (veggies, beans, legumes, whole grains) are the way to keep this number below 15%..
Health Issues: Simple sugars have been documented to contribute to and/or aggravate health problems, including: asthma, mood disorders, mental illness, nervous disorders, diabetes, heart disease, gallstones, hypertension, and arthritis..
Insulin Impacts: Sugar raises insulin levels, inhibiting the release of growth hormones which depresses the immune system. Further, too much insulin promotes the storage of fat, so that when you eat foods that are high in sugar, you're enabling rapid weight gain and elevated triglyceride levels, both of which have been linked to cardiovascular disease
Degenerative Disease: Sugar has no real nutritional value (minerals, vitamins and fiber) and as a result, has a deteriorating effect on the endocrine system, causing sugar consumption to be one of the 3 major causes of degenerative disease.
Cancer Culprits: Turns out that cancer's preferred fuel is none other than glucose. Controlling one's blood-glucose levels through diet, exercise, supplements, meditation and prescription drugs - when necessary - can be extremely important to a cancer treatment program..
So next time you think of having a lump of sugar in your coffee, remember, a long time ago, people found a way to drink their coffee without the sweet taste of sugar.
Do you avoid sugar? How much do you think you consume in a day, week or year?

How to Argue Effectively & Win
It can be difficult for people to get their point across without hurting one another in the process. Here are some tips for effectively resolving a problem by stating your views, while being collected and reasonable. Also included are tips on winning an argument.
Stay calm & Keep a steady low tone. The energy you give off is usually picked up on by the other person; if you are calm they sense you mean no harm and relax more. Even if you get emotional, try to keep your dignity and don’t lash out unexpectedly. Also consider your tone of voice; try to keep a steady, low tone and volume, not fluctuating to much in speed and sound. Try to sound as relaxed as possible and avoid high-pitched sounds. Also consider your body language: have a good firm posture that makes your feel powerful but not agressive.
Don’t insult the other person. Avoid to, in any way, say something that might be taken as an insult. When people are angry they are much more sensitive and will take even the smallest comment as an insult.
Express that you are willing to listen to the other person and respect them. Even though you might not agree with what the other person is saying you need to remember that they might feel just as strongly about their views as you do about yours.
Be reasonable. The outcome of the argument might not be exactly what you wanted, but never expect to get everything you want.
Don’t let it last too long, the argument degrades if it’s held out.
Allow each person to speak and make their point.
Set healthy boundaries. If the person with whom you are arguing is angry, obnoxious or verbally abusive, should you really be interacting with them? It may be better to walk away.
If the argument is with a clerk, salesperson, etc. ask to speak with their supervisor. If a supervisor isn’t immediately available, get a phone number.
Winning an Argument -
Think about the possible arguments for and against your side, and the opposite side. If there is any major weakness in your argument, you must fill it before coming to a confrontation with the opposition, or risk losing the argument.
Identify any major pitfalls your opponent can step into. A gentle nudge here and there to get them to make some sort of fallacious statement that allows you to close the bear trap is psychologically damaging and can win an argument on the spot. Also try to take each argument to its logical conclusion.
Always take full advantage of any illogicality or fallacy in your opponent’s argument. Return any illogical points with as many relevant logical facts as possible, to completely quash their point. If this is not possible, take their point and use it in your favor logically.
It’s always possible to lose an argument, especially if your argument has major weaknesses. Accept it if thats the case. However, arguments do sometimes come to standoffs, where no side is stronger than the other and nobody wins or loses. when this happens, learn to leave the argument as nothing can be gained by continuing to confront your opponent. When this happens, don’t lose control or get desperate.

Are you worried about looking like a hunchback? Here’s a pain free and effective method for safely assuming a ‘correct’ posture and improving muscle tone.
As a great side benefit, it would improve your self esteem and attitude! You will appear and feel more confident which improves your attitude and mood!
- Know what good posture is believed to be. Most people think that to “stand up straight” means tensing your back to heave your chest ‘in and up’, and pulling your head back in to your chest. This is not so. The spine has two natural curves that you need to maintain called the ‘double C’ or ‘S’ curves, these are the curves found from the base of your head to your shoulders and the curve from the upper back to the base of the spine. When standing straight up, make sure that your weight is evenly distributed on your feet. You might feel like you are leaning forward, and look stupid, but you don’t. [This needs an image]
- Using a mirror, align your ears, shoulders, and hips. [This needs an image] Proper alignment places your ears loosely above your shoulders, above your hips. Again, these points make a straight line, but the spine itself curves in a slight ‘S’. You’ll find that this doesn’t hurt at all. If you do experience pain, look at your side view in a mirror to see if you’re forcing your back into an unnatural position. If so, stop it!
- Do exercises that strengthen the muscles across your upper back and shoulders. These do not have to be strenuous! Try the following, with or without hand weights:
- Align your ears over your shoulders. Raise both arms straight up, alongside your ears. Remember to keep your ears aligned! Bend forearms toward shoulders to touch your shoulder blades. Do 10 repetitions with both arms, then alternate 10 reps for each arm singularly.
- Align ears with shoulders. Raise both arms out to sides at shoulder length. Hold for a slow count of ten. Slowly lower arms to sides, counting ten as you lower. Slowly raise arms back to shoulder height, counting to ten as you raise arms. Do ten reps, constantly checking your alignment! If ten reps are too many to start, do as many as you can. You should at least feel a slight fatigue in the shoulder muscles.
- Be a penguin. While you wait for a web page to load, toast to pop, or the microwave to beep, place elbows at your side, and touch your shoulders with your hands. Keeping your hands on your shoulders, and your ears aligned, raise both elbows (count one, two) and lower them back to your waist (count one, two). Do as many reps as your wait allows. You’ll be surprised how much exercise fits into 30 seconds.
- Do stretches. This can greatly help if you find that you have a sore back or neck after a while.
- Tilt (stretch) your head in all four directions over your shoulders (forward, back, left, right), and gently massage your neck. Avoid rolling in a circle, as it may cause further strain.
- On your hands and knees, curl your back upwards, like a cat, and then the opposite. Think about being able to place a bowl in the hollow of your back.
- Repeat the exercises a few times each day. Doing them in the morning helps your body stretch out the muscle lethargy of sleep, and periodically throughout the day helps raise your energy level without a heavy workout.
- Doing yoga is also excellent for posture. You can take a class or find a good workout video.
Sitting
- Sit in an office chair.
- Align your back with the back of the office chair. Avoid slouching or leaning forward, especially when tired from sitting in the office chair for long periods. Keep your shoulders straight.
- Flex your arms at a 75 to 90 degree angle at the elbows. You may have to adjust the office chair.
- Make sure your neck, back, and heels are all aligned.
- Keep both feet flat on the floor. If there’s a problem with feet reaching the floor comfortably, a footrest can be used along with the office chair.
Standing
- Stand with weight mostly on the balls of the feet, not with weight on the heels. Avoid locking your knees.
- Keep feet slightly apart, about shoulder-width.
- Let arms hang naturally down the sides of the body.
- Tuck the chin in a little to keep the head level. Be sure the head is square on top of the neck and spine, not pushed out forward
- Stand straight and tall, with shoulders upright.
- Stand against a wall with shoulders and bottom touching wall. In this position, the back of the head should also touch the wall – if it does not, the head is carried too far forward (anterior head carriage).
Walking
- Keep the head up and eyes looking straight ahead. Avoid pushing your head forward.
- Keep shoulders properly aligned with the rest of the body.
Carrying Objects
- Always bend at the knees, not the waist.
- Use the large leg and stomach muscles for lifting, not the lower back.
- If necessary, get a supportive belt to help maintain good posture while lifting.
- When carrying a heavy or large object, keep it close to the chest.
- If carrying something with one arm, switch arms frequently.
- When carrying a backpack or purse, keep it as light as possible, and balance the weight on both sides as much as possible, or alternate from side to side.
Driving
- Sit with the back firmly against the seat for proper back support. The seat should be a proper distance from the pedals and steering wheel to avoid leaning forward or reaching.
- The headrest should support the middle of the head to keep it upright. Tilt the headrest forward if possible to make sure that the head-to-headrest distance is not more than four inches.
Sleeping
- A relatively firm mattress is generally best for proper back support, although individual preference is very important.
- Sleeping on the side or back is usually more comfortable for the back than sleeping on the stomach.
- Use a pillow to provide proper support and alignment for the head and shoulders.
- Consider putting a rolled-up towel under the neck and a pillow under the knees to better support the spine.
- If sleeping on the side, a relatively flat pillow placed between the legs will help keep the spine aligned and straight.
A great side benefit of keeping your head straight, and your ears/shoulders/hips aligned is an improvement in your self-esteem and attitude. If you walk with your head up, you appear more confident, and feel more confident, which improves your attitude and mood, making it easier to walk with your head up.
